The Chairman of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA), Dr Joseph Obeng, has advised the government to monitor the ongoing activities happening at the port.
Joseph Obeng urged the government to also monitor the activities of every shipping line at the port to ascertain what causes the hikes in clearance at the port.
He further urged the government to make rules to protect traders and also punish shipping lines that extort money from these traders who import their goods into the country.
Joseph Obeng lamented how the processes at the port in clearing goods stress most traders. He stated that the registration and clearance of goods at the port is time-consuming and stressful hence government should help correct all errors at the port.
“There is an online registration, then you write to be approved but the approval takes a long time to process. The president should look into things and help correct these actions. We want them to monitor the shipping lines and ascertain what causes the delay in the clearance at the port,” he appealed.
