The Asante Bekwai Traditional Council has fined constituency executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for invoking curses on their land.

The executives, led by constituency chairman Salisu Musah, invoked the dreaded Antoa deity to strike persons who destroyed the billboard of their parliamentary nominee Mary Jantuah.

The NDC executives accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of masterminding the destruction of the billboard situated near the junction of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.

Mr Musah, who confirmed pronouncing the curses to ClassFMonline.com on August 27, had asked persons who committed the act to own up or be struck down during the 7 December elections.

But the traditional council condemned the actions of Mr Musah and charged him and his accomplice with contempt.

The two have been asked to bring GHS500, two bottles of schnapps, and four live sheep.

However, speaking in an interview with Class News, the NDC constituency chairman maintained that he will not reverse the curse. “It is true we pronounced curses but apparently the traditionally council had instituted rules banning the invoking of curses. But we have not overturned the curse; if he unveils himself. It will be overturned, other than that the curse will still take effect,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the NPP constituency secretary, Atta Adu-Sei has denied being behind the destruction of the billboard.

“It is not true that NPP members have gone to vandalise NDC billboards; we do not have any competition with the NDC members. We embark on house-to-house campaigns to sell our party’s message, but not destructions,” he stressed.
