New bids for BOST storage tanks in Kumasi

Two companies have tendered a bid for the construction of three additional storage tanks for the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Limited (BOST) at its Kumasi Depot.

They are MCE WEST of Austria and Top International Engineering Corporation of China.

Opening the bids in Accra on Wednesday Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Central Tender Board (CTB), said seven companies that tendered for the project in October last year were disqualified for technical reasons, after consultations with Twum Boafo and Partners, Consultants for the project.

He said BOST, therefore, had to undertake some selective tendering for the project. Three companies tendered but one of them, Motherwell Bridge (Ghana) Limited withdrew.

The Kumasi Depot has the capacity to store seven million litres of super, eight million litres of diesel and 3.5 million litres of kerosene. The capacities of the three tanks to be constructed were not disclosed.

The project is expected facilitate the distribution of petroleum products in the Northern Sector of the country and reduce the congestion at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

The Management of BOST has plans to construct additional storage tanks at the Accra Plains and Takoradi. Land is yet to be acquired for the Takoradi project.
