A lecturer with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Opoku has slammed previous and current governments for their roles played leading to the suspension of concession agreement with the Power Distribution Services (PDS) over allege fraud.
“I think that as a nation at a point in time people thought that ECG was not efficient in terms of managing Ghana’s power distribution sector because they had a lot of loses”, he bemoaned.According to the Energy Expert who spoke in an interview MyNewsGh.com monitored, there was no need for any government to take operations of Electricity of Company of Ghana (ECG) to PDS in the first place if governments wanted to improve local content.
“For instance, the technical and commercial losses by ECG were about 24 to 25 percent including several debts and many of these were coursed by government institutions who were not paying electricity bills”, Dr. Richard Opoku observed.
Government has suspended its concession agreement with the Power Distribution Services (PDS) bringing back the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in full control according to Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
“We have through deep intelligence detected issues with those guarantees that were provided…they were not valid as a step we have taken measure to secure the assets of the state by suspending the concession agreement”, the Minister revealed .
