Former Deputy Sports Minister is accusing the incumbent Ashanti Regional Minister of overstepping his bounds in the matter concerning Exton Cubic and brother of former president, John Dramani Mahama.
According to Joseph Yammin, Simon Osei Mensah does not have the power to issue mining license to any individual or entity that intends to engage mining activities.
Yammin was speaking to host of Abusua Nkommo, Kwame Adinkrah in response to insistence by the Ashanti Regional Minister that he will not release seized mining equipment belonging Exton Cubic.
Osei-Mensah threatened not to release the seized mining equipment of Engineers and Planners until he is provided with a certified document indicating that Exton Cubic Group Limited, has been given authorisation to prospect bauxite in the Tano Offin Forest Reserve.
But Joseph Yammin who is also a former Deputy Minister fir the region argues the minister’s decision amounts to abuse of political power.
“The regional minister doesn’t the power to issue mining licenses, so why is he insisting on inspecting Exton Cubic’s mining documents before releasing the equipment.”
“Simon Osei-Mensah is only abusing political power because he thinks he is in government, but let me remind him that before he occupied that office, some of us have been there and we know the intricacies of that office,” he charged.
