On November 28, 2024, Ghana Airports Limited announced that effective December 3, 2024, passengers from London will have access to direct flights from London Gatwick Airport to Kumasi Prempeh I International Airport.

However, some Ghanaians have indicated that their checks revealed that the flights scheduled and announced are not exactly as direct as published.

According to them, attempting to book a flight from London Gatwick Airport to Kumasi Airport showed that one had to make multiple stops through Addis Ababa and Accra before boarding another flight to Kumasi.

This has generated various takes from users on X.

A journalist, Olele Salvador, shared on his X handle: "Is that the reason why they’re encouraging people to call the hotline to book the tickets instead? Why is there only one agent responsible for this & not the EA website? Are they looking to charter direct flights with the bookings they receive? I rest my case here."

Another user wrote: "If you are into airline business you know that Ethiopian Airlines don’t fly direct unless you are going to Addis Ababa."

In a release on November 28, 2024, Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) said “in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines, will operate direct flights from London Gatwick Airport to Kumasi Prempeh I International Airport (PIA) starting December 3, 2024.”

The flight schedule is as follows:

* Departure

London Gatwick: 2.10am

* Arrival

Kumasi Prempeh I International Airport: 9.05am

* Departure

Kumasi Prempeh 1 International Airport: 11am

* Arrival

London Gatwick: 6pm

“The next flight is scheduled for 15th December 2024 to accommodate the Christmas holidays. Subsequent flight schedules will be published in the coming weeks,” the release noted.
