The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George has described government’s virtual concert for George Floyd as senseless.

The death of Floyd, whose neck was pinned under a white officer’s knee, has sparked huge protests over racism and police killings of black Americans.

New charges were announced on Wednesday against all four of the now sacked officers present at Floyd’s death.

The charge against Derek Chauvin has been elevated to second-degree murder while the other three officers, previously uncharged, face counts of aiding and abetting murder.

The vast majority of demonstrations over the past eight days have been peaceful, but some have turned violent and curfews have been imposed in a number of cities.

But according to Sam George, the decision by the government to hold a virtual concert defies common sense.

In a Facebook post, the MP said “Those occupying the Flagstaff House today and their assigns simply lack it. I mean how in God’s name do we even think of something like this?”

Below is the Facebook post by the MP;

The problem of this Country is common sense.

Those occupying the Flagstaff House today and their assigns simply lack it. I mean how in God’s name do we even think of something like this?

Well, as a people we are not angry enough with the wanton idiocy on display. If we were, those who control public resources would take us more seriously and not insult our intelligence and sensitivities like this.

May the souls of the Zongo 7, Ahmed Suale, Kintampo accident victims, 3 Takoradi girls, murdered, Mankralo of Prampram and many more, who have lost their lives in equally tragic circumstances but did not even evoke a strain of sympathy from President Akufo-Addo and his cohort, continue to rest in peace.
