The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa Constituency, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has warned illegal miners to stay away from his land, which he says he inherited from his father.
Addressing some constituents in a video sighted by GhanaWeb, the Minister of Trade and Industry, also known for his humour-laced personality, pointed to the said land while warning of dire consequences for any miner who dares to enter it.
“For those of you who don’t know, look up there, that is my land lying there. My father bequeathed it to me; his father passed it on to him. I am hearing some people want to enter into it for galamsey. Woe betides you if you dare enter the land to engage in galamsey; it will be a do-and-die affair between me and you,” he stated.
The caution by the minister comes amid re-emerging public concerns over rampant illegal mining activities bedeviling various communities across the country.
With growing reports of discoloured water bodies and eroded forest reserves, calls are being made for the government to take decisive actions against illegal mining activities.
