We have been sidelined by Creative Arts Minister, Catherine Afeku - Actors Guild cry

The leadership of the Actors Guild, Ashanti Region Chapter is worried about how the association is being sidelined by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and not being consulted on issues that affect the industry even though it plays an integral role, MyNewsGh.com can report.

A statement from the Guild signed by the Regional Chairman, Bill Asamoah expressed disappointment on how the Creative Arts Ministry has been handling the guild with regards to programs activities organized by the ministry either to build the capacity of members of the industry or sensitize them.

“We have reliably been informed that projections for 2019 as well as the budget for same was formulated. Seemingly, it may look like the stakeholders in the region are being sidelined. A situation which does not augur well for the growth of the industry. Would it not have been prudent to get us involved to benefit from it by extending an invitation to us? This, we strongly protest against and want to draw the attention of the sector minister to It”, it said in a statement.

Mr Bill Asamoah wants the Minister to revise her notes and decentralize the Ministry’s decentralize programs so that none is deprived benefiting from it thereof reminding the government of its promise of constructing a theatre for the region which is yet to see the light of day.

“This was the issue of the party promising to build a Theatre for the Region. The Ashanti Region, which is known to be the Citadel of Culture can deservedly be honored with a befitting theatre and we think the time is now”, it added.
