I doubt if we are even producing 30% of our rice consumption in Ghana. Our records of rice imports are distorted at the ports as has been clearly proven by Anas Aremeyawo Anas revelations. We have clear cases of under invoicing of imports which become the official documents with which government uses for it's statistics. So therefore, if an importer brings in 100000 tons of rice, he or she declares 50000 which is what ceps records.
The second point is that, any observer would realise that there isn't any significant stock of locally produced rice at the wholesalers or distributors point, which goes to buttress the point that we don't produce up to the figures thrown out there. It is mere hushed up talk and we need to be honest with ourselves.
