MTN GHANA Foundation has held its 2019 MTN ‘Save a Life’ blood donation campaign to save the lives of people who need blood across the regions in Ghana.

Mr Samuel Koranteng, Corporate Services Executive, at the ceremony in Accra yesterday, said that since the inception of 2011 Valentine’s Day blood donation exercise, they have recorded so many heartwarming stories involving people whose lives had been saved through the exercise.

“Some of these stories have been told by our own staff whilst others are from our customers. One of the stories which touched me so much was this: one of our customers whose baby was critically ill needed blood transfusion urgently. The baby was saved at the point of death,” he said.

Mr Koranteng said that MTN’s Save a Life campaign is very critical and that they had made phenomenal progress with the initiative since it started.

He thanked the Foundation, staff volunteers and donors who put in a lot of effort to make the blood campaign happen.

He said “from a little over 100 pints of blood recorded in the first exercise, we have achieved great successes. We hope to collect 3,500 pints from 19 bleeding centres set up across the 10 [old] regions of Ghana. Though ambitious, we are very hopeful of achieving this with the help and commitment from you all.”

Mr Robert Kuzoe, Executive Secretary, MTN Ghana Foundation, thanked their health partners from the National Blood Service and the medical teams from Korle Bu, 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital.

According to him, Dr Justina K Ansah said sometime ago that the country only needed one per cent of the population to voluntarily donate on regular basis for it to have a sustainable blood stock to save lives.

“It is with this knowledge that MTN Ghana encourages all Ghanaians to take part in this voluntary blood exercise across the country because you never know whose life you will be saving,” he said.
