Eighteen (18) entrepreneurs from the Upper West Region have been selected to benefit from the government’s flagship "National Entrepreneur and Innovation Programme NEIP".

They are part of the 12,000 entrepreneurs, nationwide, to receive a one-month entrepreneurship training designed to help them to create their own jobs and employ others to bring down unemployment and accelerate economic growth.

Aside the training, they would also be given financial support ranging between GHS10,000.00 and GHS100,000.00 from the government to either expand their businesses or establish new ones.

Speaking during the launch of the programme, Dr Hafiz Bin-Salih, the Regional Minister, said the programme was targeted at creating an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs and startups to grow.

He noted that the area was full of business opportunities and wondered why the youth were bent on working in the public sector, which he said, was choked and had “very limited opportunities”.

“I, therefore, want to appeal to the youth of the region to take advantage of the NEIP programme to develop themselves.

“I shall personally promote and champion the cause of anybody who comes out with any workable initiative”, Dr. Bin-Salih added.

Alhaji Tahiru Issahaku Moomin, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), called on the youth to avail themselves for the initiative, telling them that, the government was eager to give strong support to the private sector which served as the engine of growth of the economy.

He said funds were available for individuals who wanted to start their own businesses but cautioned that applicants must provide productive and innovative business plans to enable them access the funds to ensure gains after the investment.
