Nsromma Titans crowned champions in 2017 Cricket League
Nsromma Titans have been crowned champions of this season’s Greater Accra Cricket League (GACL) after beating the maiden champions, Everest, in a nerve-racking game at the Achimota Cricket Oval over the weekend.
Nsromma maintained a 100 per cent winning record in the six-club league to be crowned champions, with five wins from five matches.
The club that was always second on the table behind Everest won toss and opted to bat first. They scored 126-10 in 28.5 overs with Julius Mensah scoring 31-28 while Rexford Bakum scored 22-32. David NiiAshong Ankrah of Everest took 3-26 in six overs while Ramesh, Vincent Ateak and Swapmil took two wickets each in the bowling figures.
Everest, however, couldn’t replicate their brilliance as they managed 101-10 in 26.2 overs, allowing Nsromma to win by 25 runs. In Everest batting performance, Ramesh scored 19-25 while Vincent Ateak scored 12-22. Daniel Anefie took 3-15 in six overs whereas Godfred Bakiweyem took 2-23 in six overs.
Man of the Match went to Daniel Anefie of Nsromma Titans who scored 11 runs, took three wickets took away a GH¢100 cash prize from Bush Kanteen.
For their reward as champions, Nsromma Titans took home GH¢2,000 and a trophy from Golden Dragon Casino, who were the main sponsors of the league.
Everest also received a trophy and GH¢1500 for finishing second, while GTA Superkings which were third, with six points, went away with a trophy
BGC, which won last year’s edition, came fourth with four points, while Dilmah placed fifth with two points. City CC didn’t come to the party as they couldn’t win a game, finishing bottom with no point.
The success of the league had the CFO of South Africa Cricket providing balls for the eight weeks, with ICK International giving out prizes for the individual awards.
