Actors in court for possessing toy guns, fire crackers

Cape Coast, Nov. 28, GNA - A circuit court at Cape Coast on Tuesday granted 18 film actors, eight million cedis bail each with a surety each to be justified for alleged illegal possession of and using fire-crackers and toy guns resembling AK 47 assault rifles, in contravention of the law.

The 18, comprising students, teachers, public servants, as well as some unemployed, pleaded not guilty and are to re-appear on Tuesday, December 12 and the court presided over by Mr Justice Mustapha Logoh, asked the police to endeavour to produce the owner of the items on the adjourned date.


The accused persons, most of whom are resident in Cape Coast, are Prosper Senya 29, Christopher 27, Emmanuel Owusu 18, Mac Donald Obidlo 19, Sam Allotey 24, Lawrence Quist 20, Isaac Awere 18, Joseph De-Graft Coleman 20, Abiodum Ogungbemi Pale 25, James Femi 28, Ivy Sampson 22, Ama Hawkson 19, Patience Quarcoo 19, Shilla Crentsil 18, Naomi Akua Gyamfua 18, Millicent Baidoo 22 and Mary Clarende 19. Chief inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court that last Sunday at about 15 hours, police had a tip-off that some "armed criminals" were firing shots indiscriminately in the bush surrounding the premises of the Central Regional Coordinating Council.

He said the police promptly went there and found the accused persons with five toy guns resembling AK 47 assault rifles and fire-crackers, also known as "knock-outs", claiming they were rehearsing for a film.
