Security analyst, Adam Bonaa, has hit back at government over claims that security analysts in the country are making a mockery of the alleged coup attempt in Ghana.

Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, at a news conference Thursday cautioned the public and analysts against trivializing the coup plot.

“It is unfortunate that sections of the Ghanaian public will attempt to ridicule this information. Look at the assassination of the former President of the United States of America John F. Kennedy. He took a bullet and just one person with a gun was arrested.”

“The culprit did not do it with tanks or missiles or weapons of mass destruction but security experts came to the conclusion that there was clear and present danger and went ahead to arrest this person. If something like this happened, then I think that the attempt from some quarters to ridicule this is rather unfortunate and should not be encouraged,” he stated.

Reacting to the comment by the deputy minister, Mr. Bonaa said the government owes Ghanaians an apology over the way they have handled the alleged coup incident.

“What they actually put out there suggested there was a coup that was almost about to be staged. You would realize that they should have come back to apologize and say that is not what the intention was but this is what they wanted to communicate.

“But to come and say that public and some self-acclaimed security analysts attempted to ridicule it, well, for me I can understand the position of government and I can’t say they should do otherwise but they’ve come out with a position that keeps changing... where is the consistency? They keep changing their position,” he said.

Meanwhile, three people are facing trial for the alleged coup plot. Government says some serving military officers are also being questioned over the incident.
