Carpenter takes advantage of load shedding to defile girl 13

Kumasi, May 24, GNA- A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded a 22-year-old apprentice carpenter into prison custody for allegedly taking advantage of the load shedding exercise to defile a 13-year-old primary six pupil on several occasions. Kwame Abraham pleaded not guilty to the charge and will re-appear on June 7.

Police Chief Inspector Collins K. Fosu told the court presided over by Mr Richard Mac Kugyapwah that both accused person and victim live in the same house at Anloga Sobolo, a suburb of Kumasi.

He said on April 26 this year, due to the power outage in the area, the victim and her brother slept on the corridor in front of their room whilst accused also joined them.

The prosecution said later in the night, the brother went to their bedroom to sleep without waking up the victim.

Chief Inspector Fosu said Abraham took advantage of the brother's absence and forcibly had sex with the victim.

Unfortunately for Abraham the mother of the victim suddenly came out of their room and saw him in the act.

According to the prosecution, it was revealed later during interrogations that Abraham had been having sex with victim under the same circumstances on several occasions.

A report was made to the Oforikrom police and a medical report issued to the victim later confirmed that the victim had been defiled and Abraham was arrested and after investigation charged with the offence.

Ewe chiefs in Ashanti interacts with their migrant subjects

Kumasi, May 24, GNA- The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of Ewe Chiefs led by Togbui Mawufe Ame Fugah, have visited migrant Ewes communities in the region to interact with them and inspect on-going projects.

The tour, which is a two-year affair, also enabled the Council to resolve problems and issues that impede the development of Voltarians in the communities who are mainly farmers and carpenters. They have so far been to Beposo in the Sekyere East district, Adomfe and Krofa in the Asante-Akim South district and visited the Voltarians Students Association of the University of Education, Winneba (Kumasi Campus).

They have also visited the Anlo students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

During the tour, Togbui Fugah told them that since they have become members of the communities they live in, they must participate actively in communal activities to enhance the development of the area. He told those into farming to adopt modern techniques to increase their yields.

Togbui Fugah advised them to send their children to school, aw well as registering them with the National Health Insurance Scheme. He urged them to form social clubs to help bring unity and also initiate self-help projects.

The host chiefs expressed their appreciation for the visit and thanked Togbui Fugah for his efforts to make them feel at home. Togbui Afelete Danso, Ewe chief of Krofa, expressed the hope that the Asantehene would honour Togbui Fugah for his good works.
