Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly has handed over a kindergarten block to Meguo a farming community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region.

Constructed at cost of GH¢230,000, the new building provides relief and serene atmosphere for teaching and learning for about 300 pupils who prior to the Assembly’s intervention did not have a kindergarten for the children.

In her speech during the handing over ceremony, the District Chief Executive, Katherine T. Lankono said education had been her priority and she would endeavour to elevate the standard of teaching and learning in the district.

She encouraged children of school going age in the district to be serious with their books since Free Senior High School policy has come to supplement the effort of their parents.

The Free Senior High School Policy (FSHSP), which is the flagship education programme of the New Patriot Party (NPP) government, has finally been implemented. Under the FSHSP, government will be required to foot all bills - including feeding fees, tuition fees and all other charges - with regard to first-year students admitted in the 2017/2018 academic year.

She advised the authorities to take very good care of the structure

The District Director of Education, Madam Mary Assumpa promised to assign teachers to the school in September for the school to start admitting children.

The Assembly member for the Siiro electoral area, Nantiere Cosmas appealed to the Assembly to provide them with furniture and some learning materials for the children.

The Assembly member said he is very surprised at the pace of response by the Assembly in providing them with the KG block, which according to him will go a long way to support children around the Siiro Electoral Area to have Kindergarten Education before advancing to the primary level.
