IGP must be sacked – Atik Mohammed
The embattled General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) is calling for the immediate dismissal of the Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Appeatu.
According to Atik Mohammed, all he has done to combat crime is to organize press conferences to re-assure Ghanaians when the security situation in the country is growing from bad to worse.
His comment follows the brutal murder of a Police Commander at the Kwabenya District Police station in Accra over the weekend.
A gang of suspected armed robbers on Sunday dawn stormed the police station, killed the officer and freed seven inmates.
But after thorough investigations, the police have apprehended two of the suspects, Attah Kwadwo, 20, and Prince Osei, 27 at Worawora in the Volta Region.
The IGP at a press conference Thursday disclosed this and added that, they have intensified the manhunt to fish out the escapees and the men who broke into the police station.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Atik Mohammed said the supposed efforts by the IGP is not enough.
He indicated that, the number of murder cases involving the police and civilians has increased astronomically – a situation he described as worrying.
“IGP is not impressing Ghanaians with his delivery; the security situation is deteriorating by the day” he bemoaned.
The PNC General Secretary that, nothing will work if the head leading the police force lack the strategy to match up to the sophisticated criminals in the country.
“I only see criminals entering police station to free their colleagues in movies but for this to happen in Ghana is dangerous. The killing is becoming too much” he stated.
Atik Mohammed wondered why President Akufo-Addo has not relieved the IGP off his post following the incessant killing in the country.
“There are a lot and fine men in the service who can work effectively. The President must act now” he stressed.
