Kokrobite taxi drivers demand IGP’s action after alleged police assault

Six people have been injured, and four others arrested after police officers from the Kokrobite District Police Headquarters allegedly assaulted a group of taxi drivers.

According to an adomonline.com report on September 22, 2025, the incident occurred during a funeral wake-keeping for a colleague's wife at the Kokrobite Goil Filling Station.

The drivers were reportedly directing a hearse and controlling traffic to ease congestion on the Kokrobite road when police arrived.

According to reports, the officers accused the drivers of blocking the road with their vehicles, which led to a confrontation.

At least six people, including one passenger, were injured the scuffle.

Four drivers, including the chairman of the Kokrobite Drivers Association, were arrested.

The drivers claimed they did not understand why they were attacked, as they were only trying to manage traffic for the funeral procession.

They alleged that police officers assaulted them with sticks without provocation.

The drivers also claimed this was not the first time officers from the Kokrobite District Command have harassed them, stating that drivers and motorbike riders are often assaulted when they refuse to offer the officers money.

The drivers are now calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of the Interior to take immediate action against the officers and their commander.

They warned that if their demands are not met, they will 'advise themselves,' a veiled threat of further action.

According to the adomonline.com report, a group of journalists who went to the police station to get the police's side of the story were also allegedly assaulted and driven away by the district station officer and his men.
