Kwabenya shooting: Jail breakers should not have been kept there - Mustapha Hamid admits

Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid has admitted that the Kwabenya Police post should not have been the appropriate place to host the jail breakers who killed a police officer in the process of running away.

According to Mustapha Hamid, the status of the Kwabenya police post is not a one of a police station like the Nima Police station with the needed security measures to keep criminals of such nature.

Commenting on the shooting of a police officer at the Kwabenya police post in Accra last week, Mustapha Hamid said the hosting of the jailbreakers by the police post was one of the fundamental flaws that led to the killing of the police officer because the post was not equipped enough to undertake such activity.

Mustapha Hamid further added that with the provision of the needed logistics the Ghana Police Service will be able to perform up to the world standard.

MP for Tamale Central Constituency, Inusah Fuseini on the same topic said the jailbreakers among other criminals have identified the shortfalls of the Police Service and are exploring that

Inusah Fuseini has bemoaned the lack of continues training of the police service which has make the service not able to combat crime.

The armed robbers set the escapees who were in cells at the Police District Headquarters free after shooting a supervising officer on duty.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Efia Tenge, in a statement revealed that the suspects were six Ghanaians and a Nigerian.

In the clash, one Police officer at the Police station sustained gunshot wounds but unfortunately passed on whilst receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
