The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisah Djaba, has condemned the assault on a woman at Midland Savings and Loans banking hall by a police officer.

She has described the content of the video as heart-rending and nauseating.

In a video that went viral on Social Media, a police officer identified as Frederick Amanor, is seen in a video striking a lady identified as Patience Osafo, who was holding her baby, multiple times on the head, first with an umbrella, and then with his fists.

He also attempted to violently drag her out of the building.

But in a statement, the minister is concerned about the rising incidence of violence affecting vulnerable members of the Ghanaian society like women, girls, children, the poor and the disabled.

“Once again, the Ministry is exhorting all leaders of society to support the Ministry to inculcate the virtues of love and care for the weakest and most vulnerable in our society,” the statement states further.

The Minister added that the ministry is aware of the swift action taken by the Minister of Interior to bring this erring officer to book.

“It is our expectation that this behaviour will be dealt with in consonance with the laws of Ghana, and the sanctions announced publicly to serve as a deterrence to other rogue policemen.”
