Public warned about sale of fake motor insurance stickers

Takoradi, Oct. 25, GNA - Mrs Emma Ocran, Legal Director of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), on Thursday expressed concern about the sale of fake motor insurance stickers by some individuals to motorists.

She was speaking at a one-day workshop on Insurance and the Compensation Fund organised by the NIC for vehicle owners and drivers in Takoradi.

Mrs Ocran cautioned the public against purchasing motor insurance stickers from people by the roadside. She said only recognised insurance companies were to sell the stickers and urged the public to patronise stickers from such companies. Mrs Ocran said persons who bought fake stickers were harming themselves and stood to lose when they applied for insurance claims. Mrs Rose Akuffo-Anoff, an officer at the Legal Department of the NIC, said the compensation fund was used to pay insurance claims when insurance companies refused to do so in instances such as breach of contract.

She said the fund did not pay for property damage but only for injury and death. Mrs Akuffo-Anoff said the NIC and insurance companies contributed to the compensation fund.
