400,000 GES procurement: ‘Students will pass exams if they are tutored well’ – Franklin Cudjoe

IMANI President, Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed final year students in Senior High Schools, under the Free SHS scheme, will pass their examination provided they are taught well by their tutors.

His comments fall on the back of the move by the government, to procure about 400,000 past questions, to the first batch of beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School policy preparing to write their final examination April next year.

According to him, “If these students were attending classes and were well taught, they should be passing their exams anyway.”

The Ghana Education Service (GES) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education procured some 400, 000 sets of questions and answer booklets containing possible questions likely to appear in the final examination of Senior High Schools final year students.

The exams booklets, acquired from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) form part of measures to ensure that the students pass the West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Franklin Cudjoe, however, noted that although the initiative was laudable, “too much meat doesn't spoil the broth”, adding concerns raised as to whether teachers are to be at the forefront of the educational sector or government.

The critic wrote in a Facebook post that; “If these students were attending classes and were well taught, they should be passing the exams anyway. Well, as they say, too much meat doesn't spoil the broth- but wouldn't teachers rather than the government be at the forefront of this 'Pasco' business? Good luck to the students all the same.”
