George Bright-Abu donates
The Editor of the United States based Afrikan Post Newspaper - George Bright-Abu - has donated about 450 pairs of shoes to the Assiamah Guahyia Ababio Junior Secondary School at New Edubiase in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Mr. George Bright-Abu who was accompanied by his wife and siblings during the donation is himself an indigene of New Edubiase. He made the presentation in the presence of the Chief Sword Bearer of the Edubiase Stool; Nana Kwasi Arhin Bio, the Gyaasehene, the teaching staff, Education officers from New Edubiase and the entire student population of the school.
Mr. George Bright-Abu said the gesture was in honor of his late father Nana Assiamah Guahyia Ababio whom the school was named after during the presentation of the footwear to the Headmistress of the school. Bright-Abu said "it was my late father's wish for me to support the school though he unfortunately did not live to witness the event" as he emotionally recounted how dear the school was to his late father.
Ms. Theresah Ohene Asarebea; the headmistress of the school expressed
her profound appreciation for the gesture and said "the footwear would encourage the students to have a sense of belonging that they too are not forgotten by society as they pursue their academic work diligently". She went on to say it would also help the students attend school regularly since some pupils stayed away from school, citing lack of a decent footwear as an excuse.
In addition to the donation Mr.George Bright-Abu and his wife promised to help fund the renovation of the statue of Nana Assiamah Guayhia Ababio which is mounted in front of the school. Nana Assiamah Guahyia Ababio was the oldest chief in Adansi before his demise in November 2014 and still remains the longest to have served in the history of New Edubiase.
He led the group of elites that fought
for Edubiase to become the centre of district administration and education
when he signed a petition for a Teacher Training College to be established there. He went on to serve as the Traditonal Ruler for over half a century with fairness and dignity, which has seen the development and growth of the Edubiase township from a seven-mud-house enclave into one of the biggest townships in the Adansi South district of Ghana today.
During his reign and through his efforts Edubiase now boasts of a District Assembly, a District Hospital, a District Police Headquarters, Senior and Junior High Schools, a District Magistrate Court, Telecommunications, and a wide range of infrastructure. His name will forever be in the hearts of the people of Edubiase.
