Corrupt NPP are creating, loot and share - Victor Smith

Victor Smith, Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) has accused officials of the Akufo-Addo government of trying to use their intelligence to create, loot and share from the country’s coffers.

According to Mr.Smith, the “true test of fighting corruption is holding your own accountable when they go wrong”, adding that: “So far, the President has failed this test”.

He continued that members of the current government during their opposition days tagged the previous government as wicked for making water and electricity bills escalate than rent bills, but what do we see in their time.

“Akufo-Addo and his government officials create, loot and share government, they have nothing better to offer Ghana, Victor Smith exclusively told Kwaku Dawuro on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7

“Ghanaians have seen so far is lip service in the fight against corruption. The Special Prosecutor’s Office, their flagship program, remains starved of anti-corruption instruments, remains starved of funds, and remains starved of personnel and logistics to do its work”.

Mr Smith emphasized that: “In the fight against corruption, the NDC has a better record [than the NPP] in terms of regime accountability. The NPP has proven in government that it is always reluctant to pursue their own despite the swelling stench of corruption around their administration”.

The government of Ghana recently allocated GHS180 million to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to resource it to fight corruption.

Parliament passed a law in November 2017 to establish the Office of the Special Prosecutor as a specialized agency to investigate specific cases of corruption involving public officers and individuals in the private sector implicated in corrupt practices.
