Mahama is a threat to Ghana's future – Akufo-Addo

With just days to the crucial general elections, the presidential candidate of the largest opposition party, Nana Akufo-Addo is making a strong case why a “disastrous” administration led by President Mahama should not be given another term.

The New Patriotic Party leader is also predicting a destructive future for the nation if the government is allowed to stay in office after January 7: where a new government is expected to preside over the country for the next four years.

About 15 million eligible Ghanaians are expect to exercise their franchise on December 7 to elect a president and 275 Members of Parliament. Early voting (Special Voting) took place Thursday with some hiccups that warranted an extended special voting exercise scheduled for Sunday.

“The governance of our country and him (President Mahama), in my view has been a disaster. All the indices of our country has gone backwards,” Mr. Akufo-Addo assessed the four-year performance of Mr. Mahama who is seeking a second and final term in office.

He was speaking in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM on Friday. The NPP presidential candidate mentioned that economic growth and employment among others have worsened under the watch of the National Democratic Congress-led government.

“If we want to protect our future then we must vote him (Mahama) out…if it is the same kind of performance that he wants to continue with,” Akufo-Addo said in his local language.

He stressed that President Mahama “is a threat to the future of our country”, the more reason he wanted him out as a leader, adding that his style of governance and his substance “means we will not have a good future”.

He assured electorate that the NPP has the people and right policies to turn around the “ditch-bound” fortunes of the country.

“Five solid years of electricity difficulties [under the NDC government]…we have plans to end dumsor (erratic power supply), he underscored.
