Mid-Volta Association raises funds to help Toronto kids hospital

The Mid-Volta Association of Ontario on Saturday, April 22, 2017 organized its 14th Annual Easter Party with a fundraiser to help the Toronto Kids Hospital which is one of the most popular Children's hospitals in the world.

The function which was held at the exquisite Verdi Banquet Hall in Mississauga was chaired by Dr. Victor Awafo, the Chairperson of the Ghanaian-Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO).

The Executive President of GCAO and his Vice as well as the Presidents of the Southern Volta Association of Toronto and the ECCO (central organizing committee of Voltarians in Ontario) were at the high table to support Dr. Awafo.

In his welcome address, the President of the Mid-Volta Association of Ontario, Mr Larry Kutuadu pointed out the need to donate to support the work that the Toronto Kids Hospital does for children around the world.

He said, "we have been supporting children in our association over the years with scholarship funds. It will be good to extend our benevolence outside our association. Hence our objective today to fundraise to help the Toronto Kids Hospital no matter how small our Continuation may be."

During the fundraiser launched by the President of ECCO over $2,000.00 was bagged that night!

For the past three years the Mid-Volta Association of Ontario has supported 3 students with some scholarship money. One of the recipients of such scholarship, Winnifred Offei, a student at the York University in Toronto was at the function to render her appreciation to Association.

She was happy that with her parents in far away Ghana she could still find 'a family' in the Association of her motherland. She revealed that she has used the scholarship money given her to purchase a laptop for her school work and promised to study hard to become dental doctor (dentist).

Greetings of the season were brought by the Ghana Consulate in Toronto. The royals of the Volta in Toronto dressed in their traditional regalia graced the occasion with their presence

Other representatives at the function included the Fantseman Cultural Association of Toronto, the Southern Volta Association, the Ga Adangbe Group, Brampton Ladies and the Adehyema Group among others.

There was a fashion show by the youth of the Mid-Volta Association. The participants of the party were treated to palatable dinner and; entertained by DJ to danceable sounds of highlife as well as 'boboobo' (traditional Ewe) music.
