An Accra Central District Court on Friday remanded seven more suspects into police custody in the killing of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.
This brings to 51 the total number of suspects remanded, the police have said. The latest remanded suspects are expected to reappear on June 21.
The suspects are being tried for lynching Major Mahama, then a captain in the military, on May 29.
He was on a routine morning fitness run when residents accosted and lynched him for being an armed robber. He has since been buried.
Among the latest to be remanded are Akwasi Baah, Solomon Sackey, Kwame Agyei, Joseph Appiah Kubi and Michael Kumah. Two – Akosua Takyiwaa aka Maabono and Esther Dauda aka Asha – are women, bringing to eight the number of women arrested so far.
