The National Secretariat of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network ( TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress( NDC), has expressed outrage at what it calls the ” constant act of victimisation” of heads of educational institutions and students who have allowed some form of partisan activity on their campuses, calling on the President ” to desist from this disgusting act of and focus on delivering on his promises.”

In a press release today, it argues that even under ex-president Mahama, the then running mate, Dr Bawumia, campaigned in most Nursing and Teacher Training Colleges, Senior High Schools ( SHSs) without any hindrance or victimization.

It, however, observes that the current government victimizes heads and students when the opposition holds political activity in these same places the current Vice President campaigned freely in time past.

“This constant act of victimisation under a President who prides himself as a Human Rights lawyer is an eyesore, undemocratic and against the right of every Ghanaian citizen,” the release says.

This criticism comes on the back of happenings at the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College ( NMTC) where some trainee nurses were seen chanting “Mahama, we are sorry” when the former President visited the North East Region recently.

Subsequently, management of the college issued a statement distancing itself from the actions of the trainee nurses and promising to launch an investigation into their actions and possible impersonation of the trainee nurses.

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) also dissociated the council from the “Mahama we are sorry” nurses.

But the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have accused the government of manipulating the management and SRC.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the Bureau of National Investigations ( BNI) is looking into happenings at the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC).
