The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Policy Advisor, Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, says President Akufo-Addo will be described as worse President Ghana has ever had if former President John Dramani Mahama wins the 2020 Presidential elections.

According to him, Ghanaians passed a verdict on the former President Mahama as worse performed President in the 2016 general elections, for which reason he suffered unprecedented and humiliating electoral defeat.

Reacting to Mr. Mahama’s announcement to seek for re-election in 2020, the PPP Policy Advisor wondered how the electorate can change their minds to vote back into power “Mr. Mahama who presided over a corrupt and incompetent administration in the past.”

President Akufo-Addo’s inability to renew his mandate in 2020, he stressed, “will mean that he is most incompetent and corrupt government in the annals of this country political history.”

He told 24NEWS.NEWS in an exclusive interview that “in 2020, I don’t forsee former President Mahama winning the elections but in the unlikely event that he wins, Akufo-Addo will go down as worse President Ghana has ever had because the NDC 2016 elections defeat was a judgement passed by Ghanaians on the worse performance of Mahama-led administration.

“How can things turn around in such a way that this same man, who is blaming himself for such disgraceful and historical electoral defeat across the world, get the confidence to present himself for another election and win?”

To him, the motivation by former President Mahama to stage a come back to recapture power for the NDC will either be that the former President takes Ghanaians for granted or has realised within the past 19 months that he can beat the Akufo-Addo-led government based on the competence and corruption argument.

“If you look at the way Ghanaians voted in the 2016 generation elections and how they overwhelmly rejected the candidature of Mr. Mahama and now his admission that he is God sent and the fact that he owns it a duty to recapture power for his party …and admitting blame that he is the course of NDC defeat and his stewarship was not good enough…these things alone tell you who is he now,” he said.

The former President, Mr. Asamoah-Siaw argued, has the constitutional right to seek for re-election but his performance, which is culminating in some crisis in the financial sector cannot secure him another term.

He believed the President Akufo-Addo has over two years from now to prove that he is capable of governing this country better.

The PPP, according to him, will also this time around put up more viable political campaigns to change the fortunes of the party in 2020.

Former President John Mahama has declared his intention to contest the Presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Mahama was the Vice President to late Professor John Evans Atta Mills and subsequently became the President after the death of former President Mills.

In 2012, he won the Presidential election but failed to secure his second term mandate in the 2016 general elections.

Per the 1992 Constitution, Mr. Mahama has only a term to run in case he wins the party Presidential primary and the 2020 general elections.
