Four suspected illegal miners were on Sunday morning killed by unknown assailants.
According to a resident of Akyim-Akukuso near the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region where the incident happened, Sebastyne Raphael Onyon, all four were starting their equipment for the day’s operations when they spotted an oncoming double cabin pickup.
Fearing the occupants were members of Operation Vanguard, they fled into the bush leaving their equipment behind.
They were trailed and shot to death by the assailants.
It is not clear if the killers are armed security personnel or criminals acting under the guise of security persons.
Bodies of the deceased persons have however been conveyed to a mortuary in the area.
Police have confirmed the deaths to mynewsgh.com but indicate that they are investigating the matter.
