Chief Justice Sophia Abena Boafoa Akuffo has sworn in 800 new Commissioners of Oath to join the league of commissioners to assist in the verification and registration of Ghanaians to support the ongoing national identification programme.

The commissioners who will be based in the southern sector were advised by the Chief Justice to justify the trust reposed in them by the Judicial Service and the National Identification Authority (NIA).

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, the Chief Justice reminded them to be guided by section 91 of the Oath Act and Regulation 56 of the Judicial Service which enjoins them to take lawful oath and affirmation.

According to her, anything contrary to that negates the constitution and is punishable by law, hence, the need to be truthful in discharging their duties.

For his part, the Acting Executive Director of the NIA, Professor Ken Agyemang Attefuah entreated the commissioners to have the conscience not to register non-Ghanaians and adhere to the professional training given them by the Judicial Service.
