The Upper East Regional Minister Ms. Tangoba Abayage has touted President Akufo-Addo’s love for her region, a connection she says has manifested in the frequent visits to the region by the President.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of both the Upper East and North East region in Pwalugu shortly before the President broke grounds for construction work to commence on a multipurpose dam in the area on Friday, November 29, 2019, Ms Abayage commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for an unprecedented frequent visit to the Upper East region.

“It is instructive to note that this is the eleventh time His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana is visiting the Upper East region”, she said.

She noted that never in the history of Ghana has the Upper East region experienced such kind love and gesture from a sitting President.

Ms. Tangoba Abayage further noted that though past governments acknowledged the huge potential of the White Volta River stretch in the Pwalugu area, they lacked the political will to make the construction of the multipurpose dam a reality.

The construction of the dam according to her demonstrates unparalleled leadership and love for the Upper East region by the President.

The multipurpose dam when completed, will have an elevation of 168m above sea level and have a reservoir covering an area of 262 km2.

It will also have a 60MW powerhouse, a 50MW solar power plant and an irrigation scheme consisting of a 20m high water weir and canal network for about 25,000 hectares of land to support about 15,000 small scale farmers.

It has also been described as the biggest single investment in the north of the country.
