National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has denied reports suggesting that he made attempts to influence investigative journalist Anas Aremyaw Anas from publicly screening his recent work into corrupt practices in Ghana football.

There are reports that an attempt was made by the Islamic cleric to ensure that the Number 12 documentary which indicted former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, a staunch Muslim, was shelved.

Sports Journalist Mohammed Amin Lamptey is alleged to have disclosed this in an interview with an Accra-based radio station.

But spokesperson for the Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu told Class News’ Blessed Sogah that the allegations are false.

Sheikh Shaibu said: “I’ve never known of any meeting, the chief Imam is an elder and he has no business wanting to know what happened, so, we want to indicate to the whole world that the Chief Imam never made an attempt to stop Anas Aremeyaw Anas from going ahead with the premiering of that exposé; we want to support every effort in the country led by the chief imam, any effort government is doing to rid our country of this canker of corruption, we’re so committed and we want to support any institution that goes on to do so.”

Mr Nyantakyi has since resigned following the exposé.
