President of Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney has charged the security apparatus in the country to be more responsive to attacks and killings following the assassination of another journalist.
Mr. Monney condemned the killing of a key member of the Tiger Eye P.I and partner of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas at a press briefing in response to the incident which occurred Wednesday night at Madina in Accra.
Ahmed Hussein Suale who masterminded the exclusive investigative expose´ of corruption in Ghana Football under the tutelage of former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, was murdered in cold blood on his way home by unknown assailants according to reports.
“In the light of the foregoing, and in order to restore a sense of hope and security in the media fraternity, as well as clear the soiled image of Ghana that the murder of Ahmed would certainly cause, the GJA calls on the Ghana Police Service to, as a matter of priority and urgency, launch a full-scale investigation into the killing of Ahmed, the killers must be made to face the full rigours of the law.” Mr. Monney stated.
Several Ghanaians have called for the arrest and prosecution of Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong. Shortly after the news broke, some of them took to social media to express their anger and frustrations while pointing fingers at the legislator as he was an ardent critic of the investigative journalist after the latter released the expose´.
But Mr. Agyapong, speaking on the development on radio at an Accra-based station, Neat FM, debunked the allegations insisting that his hands were clean.
“I had a call that something was trending on social media; that I have engineered the murder of someone called Ahmed. The guy has not offended me in any way. When I was premiering ‘Who watches the watchman’, somebody told me I knew the guy because I had once given him money for his school fees, so, I told my staff not to allow him into my building again because he is a bad boy and that If he comes around, they should beat him up because he will come and secretly set cameras in the building.
“This is what I said. This boy is not relevant to my life. I’m so blessed, so, why will I go and do something stupid like that? First of all, he has not offended me in any way. They should look for those he has offended. This is cheap propaganda, I’m not afraid of anybody. People say the police should invite me, for what?
“The evil that men do lives after them; that is why I don’t want to offend anybody. Once I speak my mind, it is finished; but to plan a murder, I don’t have time for stupid things like this.”
Mr Agyapong continued: “He and Anas stepped on a lot of toes, so, they have their own enemies that they’ve created not Kennedy Agyapong. I only wanted to expose him to people to know that he is equally corrupt and that is exactly what I did. “From my investigations, they have offended so many people, so, they should focus and investigate the death well or else the very people who have committed that crime will go scot free” a report on classfmonline quoted him as saying.
Ahmed Hussein Suale’s murder will be an addition to as many high profile killings this year.
According to reports, Ahmed was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck and died upon arrival after he was rushed to the hospital. The Tema Community Four Central Assemblies of God Church Pastor, Rev. David Nabegmado was also murdered in a similar fashion while Marketing and Public Affairs Manager, Josephine Asante, was stabbed to death at her residence at community 25 also at Tema.
