The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) has condemned the attack on Tamale-based Radio Justice describing the act as sheer demonstration of intolerance and misunderstanding of the rights of individuals in a democratic dispensation.

According to GIBA, no matter the level of provocation or whatsoever in the matter, the acts perpetrated by those individuals remain criminal and must be prosecuted by the Police without delay.

GIBA in a Statement signed by its President, Andrew Danso-Aninkora urged the general public to rather make use of the legitimate avenues for resolving and or addressing differences anytime they feel a broadcaster has not been fair to them, adding “GIBA secretariat is open to receive and respond to such complaints at all times”

The statement further noted: “Broadcasters and for that matter Radio stations represent a wide spectrum of opinion and are mandated to present all shades of ideas and views to the public hence the provision for right to rejoinder in the constitution of Ghana. GIBA again wish to state that in a fast evolving and advancing society such as manifesting in Ghana today, such awkward acts stemming from sheer variation of opinion is backward, diffident, retrograde and a manifestation of minds not at par with modern society that can embrace a harmonious existence with one another.”

Meanwhile, it said members must reconsider the security of their premises and access into their studios going forward to nip the situation in the bud.
