The Builsa South District Chief Executive (DCE), Daniel Kwame Gariba, has under government’s ‘One District, One Factory’ policy performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a rice processing factory at Fumbisi.
The factory, which forms part of efforts by President Akufo Addo’s government to find remedy to rice post-harvest losses at the Fumbisi Rice Valleys, is expected to be operational in few months’ times.
Mr. Gariba, who sees greater prospects in the project, said at the brief groundbreaking ceremony that the factory will reduce the recurrent rice glut losses and create ready market for rice producers in the district.
Rice farmers at the valleys in Fumbisi last year bewailed huge rice glut in the area as a result of non-existence of ready market for their produce. Many of the rice produce rotted on the farms before government intervened with help.
The DCE said with the completion and full operationalization of the factory, the days of rice glut losses in the district would be a thing of the past.
He hinted that more direct and indirect jobs would be created for the youth in the region and especially Buluk when the facility becomes operational.
He reiterated government’s commitment to roll out interventions in the Agriculture sector to create more opportunities for the youth, urging them to take opportunities in the sector seriously to reduce unemployment among the youth in the area.
"One very important thing we need to commend about this project has to do with the fact that the youth within the Builsa catchment area and beyond will be in charge of the factory when it is set up. This will provide direct and Indirect jobs for them”.
Mr. Gariba urged the locals to give the contractor the needed support and be vigilant to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Guurelink, contractor for the project assured to do quality work and deliver the factory within the given timeline.
