Canadian kidnapping: Ghana had what it takes; No foreign assets involved in rescue mission - Minister

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has maintained that there was no external interference in the rescue operation of the Canadian ladies.

Eight suspects have so far been arrested for the kidnap of the two Canadian students.

The women, who went missing a few days ago, were found in the early hours of Wednesday June 12, 2018 at Kanyasi in Kumasi.

Briefing the media today, he stated that intelligence gathering efforts enabled the security team to zero in on the suspects.

“Since the day of abduction of these two women, security operatives have been working constantly with the hope of rescuing them.” Kojo Nkrumah noted.

The Minister, nonetheless, announced the arrival of a Canadian team in Ghana to explore and find out how best they could assist with investigations and the final rescue operation.

Debunking speculations that the team from Canada led the rescue operations, Oppong Nkrumah said it was not necessary to involve the foreign security insisting that the Ghanaian security force knew what they were about and were assured of a successful operation.

On the current security scare, he emphasized that, “Like everywhere else in the world, things happen and our security agencies have proved they are up to the task.”

“Ghana is safe and had what it takes.” He added.
