A Canadian philanthropist Todd Snelgrove and his wife have donated musical instruments to the Ghana Symphony Orchestra and 12 schools across Ghana.

The couple also donated books to the schools.

Mr. Snelgrove donating the items at a ceremony said this is the first batch of items to be donated.

He said other institutions will benefit from him.

He said he hopes the items will bring out talents in the schools and urged students to read a lot.

The items were shipped to Ghana through a collaborative effort between Ghana’s High Commission in Ottawa and the Canadian philanthropist.

In a statement read on his behalf, Ghana’s high commissioner to Canada, Ayikoi Otoo said the Mission is grateful also to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Integration, Finance and Education for their coordination in the clearance of the goods as well as facilitating their distribution.

“There is no denying the fact that many more educational institutions can benefit from this initiative a goal the Mission is determined to pursue,” Otoo said.

He urged the students to take very good care of the instruments and urged teachers to make sure students benefit from the instruments and said, “hopefully through this we will raise more Ephraim Amus and other talented musicians”.

Ephraim Amu one of Ghana’s greatest musicologists attended Achimota school. Achimota was one of the recipients of the instruments.

Some of the other schools include, Accra Academy, Accra High school, Acquinas and Tema high School.
