Contrary to allegations that government intentionally circulated images of the alleged coup plotters’ weapons to garner the attention and support of Ghanaians, the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has debunked those assertions saying government had no hand in it.

According to the veteran journalist, a nurse at Citadel Hospital is behind the circulation of the images and not operatives of National Security as purported.

Revealing how it was done and reason behind it, Kweku Baako speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrooko show said the nurse sent the images of the weapons to a journalist who in turn released them on social media to create a ‘deliberate’ agenda.

“Do you know how the pictures circulated on social media? it’s so too early, I’m even constrained but look there’s a certain nurse who works at the hospital, she took those pictures and gave it to a journalist and the journalist put it out and indeed it came to also reinforce the cynicism and scepticism and so that was the purpose,” he explained.

“The security have put nothing out there of pictorial, they haven’t done that. It was deliberate, it was calculated agenda. It helped the agenda of promoting cynicism and scepticism and disbelief and root that is to say that some people are being criminalised unduly, there’s no case... Meanwhile they ignore some other essential aspects of the Minister’s statement so, in the absence of even those pictures, there’s a lot for people to proceed on and ask questions and to be alarmed and concerned,” he added.

Dr Mac-Palm, together with two others; Ezor Kafui and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu, were on Friday, September 20 picked up by a joint team from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for plotting a coup against the presidency with the intent to destabilise the country.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in a Press Release, revealed how State Agencies detected and foiled the planned attack leading to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunitions from Alajo and Bawaleshie in Accra and Dodowa respectfully.

It explained that surveillance on the activities of the persons involved commenced in June 2018 when Dr Mac-Palm and Ofosu started organising a series of meetings at the Next Door Beach Resort, Teshie, and other locations in Accra, in furtherance of their objectives.

Following the alleged coup attempt, the three accused persons were on September 24 arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court and slapped with five charges.

Charges pressed against the suspects include the following;

1. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Manufacture of arms and ammunition without lawful authority.

2. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority.

3. Manufacture of firearms without lawful authority.

4. Manufacture of explosives and ammunition’s without lawful authority

5. Possession of explosives and firearms.

The suspects have however been remanded and set to appear in court on October 9, 2019. A fourth suspect only named as Sulley is currently on the run.
