Ghanaian duo Jonathan Mensah and Mohammed Abu marked their MLS debuts on Saturday as Columbus Crew drew 1-1 at home with Chicago Fire.
Abu, started in two matches during the MLS Carolina Challenge Cup prior to the season, completed seven long passes to pair with a tackle won.
Brazilian Artur replaced him after 72 minutes.
Mensah, who was signed as Designated Player, won two aerials and headed two clearances.
"I think they did well, all of them," head coach Gregg Berhalter said. "All of them did well. When I think about Jukka [Raitala], I think he was solid. Jonathan [Mensah] was solid. Mohammed [Abu] I thought was pretty good. I thought Artur came in and was okay. And then Zack [Steffen] did well."
