The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has appointed Dr. Daniel Asare as the new Chief Executive Officer of the hospital.

Dr. Asare's appointment follows the exit of Dr. Felix Anyaa who was relieved of his post in June this year by President Akufo-Addo.

At a brief ceremony to officially introduce the New CEO to the public, Board Chairman of the KBTH, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye described Dr. Asare as a competent doctor with the necessary expertise in handling a teaching hospital.

He said, Dr. Asare was chosen as the new CEO because of his “rich experience” that can be used to fix and transform KBTH.

“The new CEO was settled on using very important factors such as competence, capacity to deliver or handle a teaching hospital, the necessary experience when it comes to hospital management, the flexibility to adjust to new conditions and people and other significant factors," he disclosed.

Dr. Okoe Boye urged the management of the facility and all stakeholders to collaborate with the new CEO in rebranding the hospital in order to restore public confidence in KBTH and Ghana’s health delivery system as a whole.

He said the appointment of the new CEO is one of the giant steps being taken by management in achieving the purpose of the facility and resolving the pool of challenges the hospital is facing, including the “No bed syndrome” that has caused unnecessary deaths.

"We want to together with both management, Board, staff, all key stakeholders work closely to make sure that this particular facility justifies the confidence that the public has in it. If you have a situation where despite all the things that are said out there, people still come to Korle Bu for care, it tells you there’s a very big reason why they come here and I always say that, it’s because the skills and knowledge you need to survive is here in Korle Bu,” Dr. Okoe Boye noted.

Expectations from Dr. Asare

As the new CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Asare is expected to develop and communicate to management, his performance contract and strategies in fixing the facility.
