The Ministry of Energy has apologised for the power interruptions [dumsor] currently being experienced in some parts of the country.

“We apologise for the inconvenience…the engineers are working hard, and hopefully, by 1st of March, the power cuts will stop,” a Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr William Owuraku Aidoo told host Kweku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Wednesday.

He explained that a major repair works on the gas pipeline from Nigeria to Ghana is the cause of the power interruptions [dumsor].

Meanwhile, he said on January 18th, 19th and 20th, the Ministry of Energy announced through the media that “there was going to be major works on the pipeline, the 500 km pipeline from Nigeria to Ghana which supplies gas to mainly the Tema enclave, that there was going to be cleaning out [in] the gas pipeline and check on the integrity of the inner lining of the gas pipeline.”

He said it was also announced that there might well be some interruptions.

Release ‘dumsor’ timetable – Angry Kumasi residents demand

Angry customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Ashanti regional capital Kumasi are demanding a timetable for power rationing that has been ongoing in the region for some weeks.

Residents in communities in the region continue to complain about unannounced power cuts which last between 6 and 8 hours daily.

The ECG has explained that the shortfall of power is from Gridco, an excuse which provokes the residents.

Some agreed customers who spoke to Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako said they suspect ‘Dumsor’ is back.

“This is the same way dumsor started in Mahama’s administration so I’m convinced dumsor is back, all that I need now is a time table so I can plan my life. I’m tired of ECG’s lies and blame game on Gridco,” an angry tailor told Ultimate News.

Other residents in the region also made similar claims and asked for a load-shedding in order to plan their lives.

But in a reaction to the development following the demands of the customers,Mr William Owuraku Aidoo said the load shedding is needless because the problem may not persist for long.

He noted that all hands are on deck to resolve the power interruptions in the next few days.

“You can consider time-table, if you’re planning that maybe for the next two to three months you have load shedding. For instance if you’re going to shed 300/400 for the next three months then you can think of that, but whereby you have not planned for load shedding and intermittently you get these challenges over one generator or the other, it's difficult to give a time table. So what we can do in this case, is to apologize to Ghanaians and work to restore power.”
