President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo imposed restrictions on movement in some areas on Friday, March 27, 2020. The orders, which according to him, will be enforced by some deployed military persons took effect on Monday, March 30, 2020, at 1:00 am.
Several hours after the lockdown however, it could be observed that some areas, which fell under the restriction zones, still had persons loitering about, persons who don’t necessarily fall under the exemptions.
Members of Parliament, food providers, media persons, and commercial drivers were part of persons who were exempted from the partial lockdown.
It could, however, be observed that persons including some Lotto operators, and metal scrap dealers and others could be seen around the Tema Motorway, Adjiriganor and parts of Dzorwulu, operating.
Meanwhile, other areas have seen massive enforcement as military persons ensure strict adherence to the President’s orders.
According to Mr. Akufo-Addo, the orders will help contain the situation and help prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
Ghana has so far recorded a total of 152 confirmed cases including 5 deaths and 2 recoveries.
