Four arrested over murder of assemblyman in Volta region

The Volta Regional Police Command has arrested four persons over the murder of an Assemblyman at Sogakpe in the Volta Region last Sunday.

“Four persons have been arrested on suspicion for their involvement in the killing of the Assemblyman for Sogakope South Electoral area. The four are currently assisting Police investigation and will be duly arraigned before court.

“The Police are working assiduously in partnership with all relevant stakeholders to arrest. anyone involved in the killing of the Assemblyman and also calls on the public for support,” a statement issued by the police said.

Assembly member for Sogakofe South, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli was shot and killed by suspected robbers at his residence last week Sunday.

Reports sad the victim fought back the suspects, numbering eight with one of them in a hood when tried to snatch his safe away. Several calls by the victim to the police went unanswered as the robbers spent about 45 minutes trying to break into his house, reports noted.

According to eyewitnesses “they used cement blocks and broke down his bulletproof and burglary proof doors, entered his home, and shot him several times; dismembering his body in gory fashion and of course, killing him”.

The youth of Sogakope who were angry over the killing blocked the bridge over the Volta river as they protest the crime and police response

The irate youth have given the police three days to arrest the suspects in the gruesome murder.
