The students who participated in the quiz
On Sunday, March 3, 2019, the Ghana Secondary Technical School won the 62nd Independence Day “What Do You Know” Quiz Competition at the Ghana Broadcasting House.
Normally not associated with the arts and social sciences, GSTS students once again proved that they have depth, and are well-rounded. GSTS got to the finals by going through a three (3) stage competition and winning them all.
The first stage of the journey started locally with wins over Takoradi-based schools like Archbishop Porters Girls Senior High and Takoradi Senior High.
They proceeded to the Regional Stage to take on schools like St. Augustine’s Senior High School, Bogoso. The semi-final was in the Southern Zone where the boys defeated Academy of Christ the King School from the Central Region.
The finals at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Studios brought together the Zonal Champions from around the country, namely: New Edubiase SHS, Notre Dame Seminary, Bishop Herman SHS and Ghana Secondary Technical School, Takoradi. After three (3) rounds, GSTS emerged winners with 25 points, followed by Bishop Herman 20, New Edubiase 16 and Notre Dame Seminary 12.

GSTS is the first technical school and third oldest secondary institution in the country.
Founded on 9th August 1909, the school celebrates its110th Anniversary this year under the theme “110 YEARS OF CREATIVITY IN SECONDARY AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES IN NATION BUILDING”.
GSTS is known for its strict discipline, as well as scientific and technological prowess.
In 2018, it was one of three (3) schools to represent Ghana, at ROBOFEST, an international robotics competition in the USA.
GSTS also won the 2012 National Science and Mathematics Quiz Champions and placed second in 2001 and 2014.
The Old Students Association congratulated the students, the Headmaster Mr. Samuel K. Essel, the Asst. Headmistress Mrs. Comfort Conduah and all GSTS teachers/staff for guiding the students to victory.
They also acknowledged students responsible for the victory, namely; Master Richard Ayensu, Master Emmanuel Cudjoe and Master Bright Adams; as well as, Teacher/Head Coach Mr. Ernest Bani and Teacher/Coach Giant Castro Amoaning.
