Maverick Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe popularly called Abronye DC, has accused members of the military tasforce under Operation Vanguard of deliberately killing suspected illegal miners in the country to avenge the death of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama.

“The soldiers are already angry and are retaliating what has meted out to one of them two months ago at Denkyira-Boase. That is why they are killing some of the miners and burning down their equipment”, he alleged on Okay FM on Monday.

In his view, it is needless on the part of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to have involved them in Operation Vanguard in the first place because they were already looking for an opportunity to avenge the death of the slain soldier.

“It is not surprising at all. I think they should not have involved them in Operation Vanguard at all”, he advised.

According to him, the soldiers involved in the operations, are exhibiting high-handedness alleging that they are overstepping their bounds and engaging in lawlessness.

He proposed that the ban on mining should be lifted immediately to allow those who have the requisite documentation to engage in mining.

“State agencies have given them permits to mine and I will like them to lift the ban and allow such individuals to go ahead and mine. The state institutions that gave them the license to operate should be up and doing and ensure that those who do not have the necessary documents are prevented”, he stressed.
