Former Ghana international Sam Johnson says Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan should have joined one of the flamboyant clubs in Turkey instead of Kayserispor.

Gyan joined Kayserispor on a two-year deal with the option to extend for a further year as a free agent after his contract with Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG last month.

The 31-year-old was initially reported to be heading to Bursaspor until the move hit a snag after both parties failed to reach agreement.

And according to Johnson, who featured for one of the country's most glamorous clubs, Fenerbahce before ending up at Kayserispor at the latter stage of his footballing, believes the Black Stars record goal scorer should have moved to one of the country's top sides instead of his current club.

“I wish Asamoah Gyan had joined one of the three big teams in Turkey,” Johnson told Goal.

“I preferred him playing with one of them because he will have quality players to provide him with quality passes to score as we know him to."

“But I pray Kayserispor will get somebody to supply him with the quality to score. With quality balls, he is somebody who could get you a goal or two by the end of a game."

He added, “He [Gyan] is a goal-scorer so let’s see what happens there. But generally, it’s ok for him to play in Turkey."

“What makes me happy also is that he’s playing for the last club I played there [in Turkey].I hope he brings them up and takes them to another level.

“However, I would have preferred him playing for Fenerbahce, Besiktas or Galatasaray.”

Gyan made his debut for the side in the Turkish SuperLig opener on Monday in their 4-1 loss to Galatasaray and lasted for 71 minutes before being substituted with an injury.
