Deputy National Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Edem Agbana has taken an exception to a publication by the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) indicating that he is a loan defaulter.

The management of Student Loan Trust Fund on November 21, 2019, made public the first batch of loan defaulters whose arrears dated as far back as 2010.

This list, however, featured the name of the NDC’s deputy National Youth Organiser.

Mr Agbana was captured with student ID 10339654 from the University of Ghana.

But contrary to information published by the SLTF, Agbana has disputed the credibility of the list and has threatened a legal suit against the Board for gross defamation amongst other things. He stated emphatically that he does not owe SLTF and will not sweep the issue under the carpet as a mere mistake.

Edem Agbana made this known in a series of posts on his Facebook posts dated November 25, 2019.

The post read; “I do NOT owe the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF). I have INSTRUCTED my lawyers to take the necessary legal actions against the fund for maliciously publishing my name among the list of loan defaulters. I will NOT treat my inclusion in the list as a 'Mistake' as they are seeking to suggest, because I strongly believe it is a DELIBERATE ATTEMPT to tarnish my reputation. This cannot be a mistake. My lawyers will take the necessary actions. For the records, let me repeat it unequivocally that I DO NOT OWE the SLTF.”

Also, the New Patriotic Party’s communicator Awal Mohammed was captured in the aforementioned list of loan defaulters.

The Student Loan Trust Fund loan defaulters featured persons from the University for Development Studies, University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology; Ho, Bolga, Tamale, Sunyani, Koforidua, Kumasi Takoradi Polytechnics; among many others.
