I’ll fight corruption whether I’m approved or not – Amidu

The Special Prosecutor nominee Martin A.B.K Amidu says he will still be committed in his resolve to fight corruption should he be rejected by Parliament’s Appointments committee as the Special Prrosecutor.

According to him, one thing seems immutable in his public life, that he’ll never compromise his stance and campaign against corruption in the country no matter his position.

“…Mr. Chairman even as Attorney General when the Chinese loan was brought to parliament, without my concurrence, I wrote a letter to the Castle to say I had not given my approval. Hon. Doe Adjaho, I remember as Deputy Speaker said that unless they got my concurrence he’ll not sit on it, so it had to be brought to me for review, and i reviewed it before it came to parliament for it to be passed. That is my track record. This country is not a milking cow. It’s for the people of this country particularly the down trodden; the poor ones. And I ‘m saying that is my position it’ll be, whether I’m approved or not I’ll continue to fight for the people of this country, the first ever Special Prosecutor nominee told the Appointment’s Committee of parliament when he appeared before the committee for his vetting on Tuesday.

Mr Amidu stressed that he accepted President Akufo Addo’s appointment because he wants to stop the leakages and corruption that has plagued the country since constitutional rule.

He observed that Ghana must be stabilized by protecting the national purse and ensuring that the citizens benefit immensely from the nation’s natural resources.

“It’s important that this country is stabilized to make sure that no one gets the excuse to stage a coup. This can be done when we protect the national purse,” Mr. Amidu said.
